THE MISSION
I'd like to share something with all of you that the Lord laid on my heart a few weeks ago. I think you might find it interesting and may just change your way of viewing your life, at least in relation to the world around you.
At some point we all ask ourselves "What's it really all about?" Why are we really here, what is our lives about in this vast world of ours? I am sure there are many answers to those important questions but the Lord gave me insight to at least one of them. The answer is our lives are not about ourselves. Our lives are much more then that. We all have a mission to accomplish and each mission is as important as the next. Perhaps this made more sense to me and was easily recognized because I am a Vietnam vet, but it was illustrated to me in context of a battle field.
A soldier is not merely placed in a battle field and told "Well now son, let's just see if you can survive." No, personal survival is important, yes... but that is by no means the end goal. Each soldier is placed at a particular place for a specific mission to accomplish. Therefore, his life is not just about him, but about the others he is in the field with and more importantly perhaps, about the others he is NOT in the field with. Each soldier's life is more about preserving the principles, concepts and foundations of the land that is his/her own and all it stands for. These same principles that apply to a soldier's life also applies to us as well. God did not simply place us here on earth and say "Well, let's see if you can make it." No, He placed us here for a reason, for a mission, be it large or small (in the eyes of the world) however in God's eyes ALL missions are important toward the final goal... Victory.
You are not placed in the battlefield to merely take accurate pot shots at the enemy but defeat them and you can not do that alone... you need others like you, other soldiers like yourself to accomplish the mission at hand. It (your life) is not just about you... your life is really about others. People you love, people you do not, people you do not know and never will. It is about ALL those who share what you believe, your values, your countrymen if you will. Please realize how important your life to others really is. God came to you for a reason and it is not just for your immediate salvation... it is for a mission... THE mission. Like in battle we are all in this together... you have my back and I have yours as well. Their will come a time when I will need to know you have it covered completely and with asurance. And there will be many other “comrades” that will need to count on that at some point in time during the battle as well. It does not simply end with “you”.
There are no Rambo's here. We all pull together to gain victory in the battle, and there is indeed a battle. A spiritual one, that goes on all around us each day whether we can see it or not. Sometimes the shells fire close enough to hear and sometimes they are further away but the battle does continue and we can only win when we realize our life is not just about us. Our general (God) has strategically placed each of us according to the specific mission required. Some are large and some smaller but each is very important to gain victory in the end. Each soldier is just as important as the next as well. We all know who Billy Graham is and the important role he has played throughout this battle, but what about his mother... or his mother's mother for that matter... do you know her? Was not Billy Graham's mother just as important or prominent? If it was not for Mr. Graham's mother there would have been no Billy Graham, therefore all that Mr. Graham has done for the Lord will not only be a ccredited to him alone. We all have a part (large or small) in each others victory and/or defeat. Our lives and actions are not just about us. Jesus himself said "Be ye one, as I and my father are one." yes... an 'Army of one' if you will.
Yes, our life is not about ourselves, it is about us all and about God's plans, His mission(s) He has in store for the victory... for the wedding of Christ's bride (us). If we can keep this in focus, if we can remember that our lives and what we do (victory or defeat) has a definite and profound effect on us all, then we just may see life a bit differently out in the battle field.
I will do my best to watch your back.
