Call to Arms

Make no mistake about it, we are at war! We have been but because so many of God's soldiers (you and I) have been sitting in the trenches the enemy has been gaining ground.

God has equipped us with all we need to defeat the enemy. We know this and even declare it amongst ourselves saying "the enemy is beneath our feet." Yet simply saying it doesn't defeat the enemy, we have to believe in the power God has placed inside us through the Holy Spirit and us that power (weapon) to defeat the evil forces around us. We can't simply call in air strikes (praying to God to blow them away) we also have to get out of our comfort zone trenches and do hand to hand combat after we call in the air strike.

Iraq if you remember was a perfect example of this. We sent in aircraft, shot missiles from the ships and blew the country apart. It was a good first step but once the air-strike was over the ground troops needed to go in. It is the only way to win the war as any general will tell you in a heart beat. Same holds true with spiritual warfare. Yes, by all means pray first to God to send in the air strikes, but after we have done that we need to put on our armor (helmet of salvation. sword of the Spirit,  etc.) and confront the enemy face to face by casting out demons, healing the sick and telling others about Christ, gaining recruits. if we do not do our part, and simply sit in the trenches polishing each others armor then the enemy will continue to take land and territories around us... and probably laughing at us as they pass by us. Why laughing? because they know full and well we are stronger and have more capable weapons then they do to defeat them in a heart beat... but we don't use them. Why? well perhaps we are simply too comfortable sitting in the trenches, or perhaps we don't fully trust in the armor God has placed in our hands, or too perhaps we hear a growl or see a sneer from the enemy and cower in the corner telling someone else to shoot because we dropped our gun in all the excitement. In a hollywood sitcom that might be funny but this is the real world and those lions will eat you given the chance!

A lion is indeed a hugh and fierce creature. One to be feared if approached without any weapon. if we were caught in it's environment without a gun or knife that hungry lion we would tear us apart without hardly any effort. Just looking into it's fearless eyes and seeing the fierceness of this animal would make most of us curl up and die. Yet through God who has given us charge over the beast (by our intellect and thereby technology) we have designed weapons to change the balance of that situation. The lion is also aware of this which is why when a lion approaches  a human it is always cautious at first if it doesn't run away completely when encountered. The lion in all it's strength, agility, speed and ferociousness knows which animals it can successfully attack and which it can not.

Same is true with demons. They can be fierce, hugh and very powerful. They can terrify crowds , powerful men and even many Christians simply by their presence, but here too we have been given weapons from God to keep them at bay and defeat them if we trust in the "gun" God has placed in our hand. However unlike the conventional gun, we can not accidently drop it, or have the gun jam leaving us defenseless because the weapon(the "gun") is within us. It is a born again Christian using the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! It delivers a blast that will totally erase any demonic presence. Even a warning shot makes most of them disappear and flee.

To kill the lion you don't talk to it, reason with it, beg it to leave or threaten to shoot it if it doesn't. No, if that lion is hanging around, pacing back and forth, he means business and you better take aim and shoot. Same with a demon. if they are hanging around you better take aim and shoot to kill because they came to devour you as much as any lion. Jesus never talked to the demons He cast out, as a matter of fact He even forbade them to speak as well. He simply cast them out, short and sweet. To the point. Don't try to reason or explain or even threaten, just take aim and fire!

You aim by knowing the Bible, that will give you proper focus and accuracy.

You shoot by declaring it to leave in the name of Jesus Christ.

You squeeze the trigger by believing in your weapon.

The Word of God is the instruction manuel. It will tell you each facet of the weapon God has placed in your hand.

Sometimes however, the shot may only wound the beast and in such instances is where fasting and prayer are also needed, but either way God has given you power to defeat the angry beast if we trust in Him and the weapons He has provided. If you show fear, drop your gun and run... THE LION WILL DEVOUR YOU! Make no mistake about it!

In Heb 2:9 we see that God made a little lower than the angels and in the natural order of things we would be devoured with little effort. However since we have been given the Holy Spirit along with Jesus death and resurrection, we are now placed above the angels. ALL angels, that means the good ones and the bad ones in so much that we being above the angels shall even judge the angels. I Corinthians 6:2-3  "Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? And if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Know ye not that we shall judge angels?"

Ephesians 6:10-18: "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.  Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

We need to not only put on the full armor of God but also get out of the trenches and do hand to hand combat. Did you know that Jesus was exactly that? A Hand to hand, up close and personal combat warrior? Did you also know there are no references of casting out demons in the old testament? Jesus was the first hand to hand combat warrior against the devil and his demons. The new testament meant new warfare. God now calls in the ground troops, hand to hand combat. Jesus Himself showed His disciples how to combat the enemy and then told them to do likewise. He asks and demands the same from us.

Like I mentioned before, air strikes are necessary, but to win the battle you have to send in the ground troops. God had sent may angels to defeat the Philistines, Canaanites, Midianites, and so on, all "air strikes" to preserve and defend His people. Jesus on the other hand battled face to face, in so much as he personally touched those possessed with demons to defeat them and cast them out. Not a general hand wave over multitudes like some modern day pope would bless, but individual personal touch and healing.

The warfare God wants us to do, needs us to do, is like that of His Son Jesus... hand to hand combat. Up close and personal with bayonets extended to pierce the enemy and cut them out, but we have to get out of the trenches to do that.

The air strikes have been called in. Churches have been praying for God's intervention for years. Now God is calling us to get out of the trenches with full armor on and take back the land the enemy has confiscated while we lay in those trenches all those years. Heed the Lords call, put on your armor and grab your weapon... the battle of the Lord is at hand!
